At Ash Gears we choose 15n20 to pair with 1095 to create pattern welded Damascus steel, Damascus steel contains 256 layers, which make up the pattern's exquisite layers. as the nickel in the steel resists the ferric chloride we use to etch blades. Using Historically common methods gives it proper heat treat on both counts for the blade to get a deeper solidification also less likely to grain growth. Various forms of steel folded together repeatedly making the blade manifest great stability and sharpness, unique patterns are formed by the layers of metal. Our 15n20 is high carbon-high nickel steel that’s famous for its high toughness plus versatility.
This blade sets between 55 -58 (HRC) on the Rockwell scale.
Greater quality Knife stays sharp longer also easy to sharpen.
What features set the ASH GEARS Serbian Chef Knife apart in terms of construction, hardness, and accessories?
Hand Made and Strengthened
The metal's weight of 58-60 HRC is a unique characteristic. It's likewise constructed of sand by hand and uses Master Smiting's traditional heat management techniques.
The Traditional Serbian Chef Knife is an excellent natural grinder. From the Balkan highlands, grinders or stones are extracted. Knives are handcrafted and meant to be one-of-a-kind. What makes 440C stainless steel unique among the 440 series for making cutting tools and blades?
Stainless steel 440C belongs to the 400 series of stainless steels. It has the most carbon of all of them. The strength, mechanical strength, and fatigue resistance of this type of metal are its defining characteristics. It may be used to produce cutting tools because of the combination of structures.
The 440C intermediate range of Stainless Steel from the 440 Series (440 A, 440B, and 440C) high carbon (With more than 1%, making the highest carbon steel of the 440 series), provides good wear and corrosion resistance, and is used for budget and medium-sized blades.
Why is 440c steel considered suitable for making certain types of knives?
The 440c medium range (previously high-grade steel) has excellent corrosion resistance and wear resistance, as well as the ability to accept a big mirror polish; therefore the answer is YES, it is a superb knife blade, but it is light. So, while I wouldn't advocate using it too hard (like a Reference knife), it might be a decent knife (like a fishing knife or a cooking knife), and it keeps its edge for a long time, making it a ready-to-handle EDC knife.
Why are Bowie knives recommended for camping adventures?
Bowie knives are used as binding tools. It is a survival tool. The length of the Bowie varies. At the moment, you can get a custom bowie knife depending on the type of use. You can choose the length and thickness of the metal depending on your needs and preferences.
You can use a bowie knife with a cut point if you wish to peel off the skin or clean the animal. If you are planning to cut a muscle. Bowie knives are known for their amazing sharpness and thickness.
If you are planning to go on a camping adventure, make it a point to carry a bowie knife. A powerful survival tool that can make your life easier while camping.
What are the key steps in caring for a Damascus steel knife to prevent rust and maintain its sharpness and pattern?
Unique Damascus steel needs to be seen oil. The Damascus pattern stretches the entire length of the blade. The steel pattern on Damascus is only revealed with etching an acid wash during manufacturing. In this etching the different oxidation levels show dark and light/shiny patterns on the blade.
Most high-carbon forged blades are made of steel, which means that they have a relatively low amount chromium in the steel.
Carbon steel and carbon steel Damascus can rust when not cared for properly, but with care it is preventable. You will need to make sure the blade remains clean and dry in order to avoid this unpleasant fate or corrosion of any kind;
After cleaning and drying your knife, you should lubricate it with a wax to prevent the moisture from affecting how sharp or dull of blade that is.
Renaissance Wax also helps to prevent corrosion and preserve the beauty of your knife.
Damascus steel blades are particularly vulnerable to damage when used on acidic foods, in outdoor environments with high moisture levels, and for game carcasses. These usages or environments can remove the etching of a blade.
You should take care not to rub the blade roughly during washing and drying, ensuring it is washed quickly. The microfiber or cotton cloth that is used will not lead to any wear on the blade.
To decrease the risk of corrosion due to moisture and temperature change, it's important that a Damascus steel knife is stored on an interior shelf inside a climate-controlled environment, it will now be unaffected by extreme moisture or temperature changes.
After cleaning and waxing your knife, it is stored: in a box or in a padded zipper case. Your knife will keep well after this treatment. Make sure that you don't keep your knife in a wet environment for long periods of time when out the field.
Don't store your Damascus knife in a leather sheath - acids and chemicals are used to tan the leather, which over time leads oxidize because of air moisture.
Continuing to keep an eye out for a wet handle is important: the moisture from the handle can also rust your blade, so you should make sure that all parts of your knife stay dry.
